Sorry for taking some time to do this post. I know that I owe my audience at least a post this month. Apart being soo tied up with the preparation of the my marriage, I am also busy with other internet business. Well here goes. I recently ordered a server upgrade from my hosting provider. As expected, there were problems which they couldn’t solve and as usual it took them more than a day (this only happened with my direct intervention and my instructions on how they could solve the problem). Simple problems that I believe if they use a little bit of intelligence, they could nail them immediately. They simply repeated the error message that I was fully well aware of without taking any proactive action to solve it. Again without the any appreciation that their customer who is me, were actually losing money from server downtime, they just played dumb and let the promblem persisted. This really frustrated me significantly. From this experience, you know that what I need is a good and solid support team who are familiar with technical design of a wordpress blog in addition to php scripts. Trust me these people only know how to operate WHM, Cpanel, updating server entries and server monitoring. They wouldn’t fix your blog php scripts error even though it’s caused by them.

The list of hosting providers on the internet is endless. Each one tries to offer the best package and support. Some even go to the extent of offering humongous data storage to entice customers. But what are real the main checklists before you decide to sign up for one? If you are thinking big…and hoping to operate a dedicated server, here’s the checkist:

• Hosting providers that only within a phone call’s away so if there is any technical issue that needs solved immediately, you can just do it over the phone!
• No hidden support charges. Well this hosting provider is offering server management at more than 5 levels.. They have bronze, silver, gold, platinum etc.
• Support team that can do server optimisation for your blog for free.
• If you are moving from a semi-dedicated server to a dedicated server, make sure that the dedicated server must at least have the same power of the semi-dedicater server. You can go from an Intel Xeon to just Pentium 4 or from having a 4Gb of memory to just 2 Gb on your dedicated server! Trust me, your traffic will choke..So it’s very very important to ask your hosting provider about the dedicated server and semi-dedicated server specs before making the move. Don’t be fooled by huge diskspace provider. The truth is you won’t be needing it. They may say that you can store musics and videos etc with a larger space.What with these heavy multimedia streaming files, you will need more bandwidth which is not cheap You will end up paying more for your server.

The last few weeks have been really hectic. There have a lot of mind draining stuff that I have to accomplish. After been on the net for almost a year, it’s time to re-look at my current position and re-strategise. I want to achieve greater things. For that I must change my strategies. Managed to come up with one main vision and supported by 4 streams of revenue-generating flagship projects. To help me to achieve this end, I have read a lot of interesting books. Books by Joe Girard, Adam Khoo and T Harv Eker. Joe Girard is World’s number one car retail salesman. His power of persuasion is well-known around the world. He has a lot to tell on how to succeed in life negotiations, persuasiona and closing the much needed sales. Adam Khoo is a young millionaire from Singapore who taught me about Power of Belief, How to Generate Multiple Streams of Income etc. While T Harv Eker is the author of the Secrets of the Millionaire Mind. There you go…

In the area of internet marketing, I simply read up blogs of Darren Rowse, John Chow, Shoemoney, Yaro Starak and not forgetting 5xmom.com.

Why 5xmom, you may ask. Well, she’s one hell of a lady. Her passion towards blogging has taken her a long way. Plus she has a good business model too. Hope we both can see the results in the next few months.

JOE GIRARD - WORLD’S NUMBER ONE CAR SALESMAN

Had a hard time recently with one of my websites. It has grown bigger a lot faster than I can cope..Lucky for me I have wonderful staff at Exabytes.com to assist me throughout the gloomy period. Database was down for a few hours at peak times. It’s so frustrating. By this time I guess I have known almost 70% of their support staff who has to put up with my whiny mouth..hehe.. Then the search for optimisation came. After some review, wp-cache plugin has come to my attention. Even Malaysia’s Number 1 blogger, Liew CF uses it..Had first attempt at installing it but failed. This error message came up “advanced-cache.php link does not exist (…) cannot continue… fix previous problems and retry“. I was like WTF! Does it have anything to do with my wordpress version? Then did a further research on the internet and this situation was common. But then I tried to install it on my other blog and guess what? It worked wonderfully well and this blog was on a higher version of 2.1.1. This has made me more convinced to upgrade my blog to a newer version.

The thing is for some blogs you need to access your SSH through telnet or through your cpanel and create a symbolic link as per the instructions in the READ ME file. This is really a touch and go thing. You might end up crashing your blog. Then the situation went on for another day, and I got increasingly frustrated and stressed out, still thinking and playing with the idea of upgrading the blog. Instead of figuring out the issue on my own and crash my blog from upgrading, I have decided to seek help from the expert..who else if not Mr. Liew CF. I feel like I syok sendiri because he’s also a Johorean..So as you know all Johoreans are very nice people. hehe..Wrote an email and the reply was quick. Then he told me that he was using WP-Cache 2.1.1 plugin..I was like ok..What I have now is only WP-Cache 2.0 which was created back in 2006. Didn’t realised that they had an upgraded version because it’s hard to see at the creator’s blog. Then I quickly downloaded it and damn…you are a genius Liew! Thanks a lot..Now my problematic blog is working like a charm with WP-CACHE 2.1.1 PLUGIN.. Brilliant..I don’t have to worry about upgrading my server at least in the immediate future.

Make sure you back up your blog mysql first before you install it, especially the wp-config.php file..If there is any error, you can easily replace it with old original file.

Steps to Install WP-Cache 2.1.1 plugin

1. Unzip the zip file.
2. Upload it ito your wp-content/plugin folder
3. Change write access of your wp-content file to 777.
4. Activate the plugin in your plugin manager screen.
5. Modify your wp-config.php file to include define(’WP_CACHE’, true)
6. Go to Option->Wp-Cache
7. Enable it.
8. Wallah.. no need to worry about creating symbolic link anymore..it’s all automatic..
